Reasons for Recycling Printer Cartridges

Every year in the UK we throw away over 30 million ink cartridges. To produce that amount of ink cartridges it takes 1,425,000 litres of oil. When you consider that ink cartridges take 1,000 years to decompose, it is clear how this will impact the environment. A way to decrease the environmental effects of ink cartridges is to use remanufactured ink and toner cartridges. There are various reasons why ink and toner cartridges should be recycled:

  • They contribute to the quickly expanding landfills.
  • Recycling cartridges leads to savings for both production and management costs.
  • To produce one cartridge is takes 100 ml of oil and 1,400 ml of raw materials.
  • Every year 300 million cartridges are thrown away.
  • Buying remanufactured ink cartridges can save you money, up to 70%.
  • Remanufactured cartridges 80% less resources than a new cartridge.
  • Every year ink cartridges amount 75,000 tonnes of waste.
  • By manufacturing a single mono toner cartridge it emits approximately 4.8 kg of CO2.
  • Ink cartridges with a microchip may cause inkjet printers to refuse to print with a cartridge that declares itself empty, to prevent consumers from refilling cartridges.

At Office Green we believe that recycling should be simple, in order to encourage vast environmental support. For more information about our recycling scheme and collection service please contact us at http://www.officegreen.co.uk/
