Great Tips for Cutting Waste

There are a variety of things you can do to cut down on waste both at home and at work. Here are some great tips to help you decrease the amount of waste you produce at home and at work:

At Home

1) Refrain from using disposable batteries. Use rechargeables, now widely available on the high street or online.

2) When cleaning the kitchen use cotton cloth instead of disposable kitchen towel.

3) Buy a sandwich wrap for your packed lunch and save those uneconomical plastic bags.

4) You can save about 40 litres of water by having a shower instead of a bath (avoid power showers as they can use more water than a bath). You can also install spray taps for new sinks as they use less water than normal taps.

5) Recycle old unwanted clothes by giving them to your local charity shop.

At Work

1) You can look for licensed waste sites where you can recycle or dispose of your business waste.

2) Instead of using disposable paper towels you can install a roller towel.

3) Only print documents when absolutely necessary, if you do print a document use both sides of the paper.

4) Don’t throw away old computers, you can sell them, donate them or recycle them.

5) Turn off appliances such as computers and TV’s when not in use and refrain from leaving them on standby.
